Alexis de Tocqueville said that one of the greatest dangers of democracy is that coming from who love it in excess. It is a hidden part of his conception of social life and the state. The morbid way to embrace democracy has always generated monsters. This consideration was already formulated by Plato, to tell the truth, in his famous "The Republic". A great text, which still attracts the depth of the analysis of power. An invisible bond together, after all, all those who have been bewitched by the ancient greel philosopher. The central aspect of this book is the movement of depersonalization progressive desire for the good, which very quickly transcends the subjective research of the ruler to assimilate desire that the considerable evidence for the intellegible. In the Platonic text  par excellence represents all the deeper issues of political philosophy and even the broader moral vision. In front of breakage Aritotelian of Platonic thought, through the introduction of the concept of imagination, Plato returns, in each case, on the scene ethics. The Platonic concern to define the conditions on which to base moral judgments survives the speculation of Aristotle. Plato asks, therefore, if the legitimacy of power depends on the knowledges or consent of men. The exercise of power can not free themselves from the desire of human goods (wealth, private bonds, the love of glory)? The reason is enough to govern men? The passion are not also present in this process? Laws can replace the knowledge of the ruler as supreme source of legitimacy? The evil of political rivalry among men is inevitable? The Republic does not have the splendor of other Platonic texts, such as "Phaedra", for example, where the power of evocation of the intelligence world is unparalleled. However, the exhibition "The Republic" pursued with merciless rigor  and, in some ways, desperate a political ideal full based on knowledge and wisdom. Nothing is more modern in the context of the debate on democracy, beyond time. To get elected, to rally support and strengthen it, once elected, the housekeeper tries to please the people, identifying with it. All this to conform to the wishes of the people themselves, even when the political action requires you to take distance from the  public. Not always, in fact, follow and satisfy the instincts of men corresponds to their genuine interests. A marketing operation in many cases does not give good fruit. In an egalitarian democracy that political power should be conferred to a form of detachement and transcendence, paradoxically, in this kind of democracy, however, is more difficult to build adequate space for the exercise of power, since it  is generated a process counter-corrent to the same basic spirit of democracy. Hence, to conclude, originates from the most secret parts of shadow, even the most unpredictable of democracy, as today we have have a good present .
