Untitled Gallery cordially invites you to the opening of an exhibition marking the 99th birthday of Běla Kolářová (†2010). The exhibition was conceived as a dialogue between two artists of different generations who have much in common. Both artists discover aesthetic value in the small things of everyday life. Beneath their placid surface, their works are teeming with unexpected energy.
Běla Kolářová (1923–2010), a founding member of the Křižovatka ('The Crossroads') art group and the wife of prominent Czech artist Jiří Kolář, today enjoys recognition at home and abroad, especially for her experiments with photography and her delicate assemblages of everyday objects. The artist found inspiration in easily overlooked little things. She based her work on carefully observing seemingly ordinary objects, then departing from their original meanings. During her life in Prague and Paris, she created an experimental body of work that revolves around language and form, object structure and geometry. Her complex work – photography, collage, installation, drawings – is marked by Dadaist irony, as well as the influence of Constructivism.
Jana Kasalová (1974) is an artist with an extraordinary ability to convey within the structure of a picture the intentional as well as involuntary messages contained in various manifestations of conceptual thinking. In her work she consistently opens new possibilities of expression. Jana Kasalová manages to evoke a singular space-time form of contact, thanks to which human, plant and animal elements enter her works. The resulting images are made up of networks of unexpected connections. Above all, the artist exerts endless effort to express herself through various signs of human presence. Kasalová's works are imbued with the essence of human sensitivity and the artist's ability to reconstruct the idea of a symbiosis between magical imagination and the material world.
